Cousin Brian’s debut full-length, appropriately titled “First,” packs more than your average basement jams into its 25-minute run time. More new wave than punk, the album digs deep into the mind of songwriter/vocalist Sean Caruthers to reveal some serious introspection and adolescent confusion. Delivered with Morrissey-like crooning, lyrics of self-doubt and contemplation are met with youthful and assertive high-energy performances, and contagiously catchy melodic hooks.
